Thank God breakfast was uneventful even though I get the impression that mom or Bev might have heard what we were doing this morning. Hell, the whole house probably heard. When I came down for breakfast Dad wasn't here, apparently, he's been having a lot of golf games on Saturday morning. I glance over at Max who raises his eyebrows at me. His words about Dad having an affair floating back to me.

Would I blame him for having an affair on my Mom? How can I judge what he does when I don't have to live with her anymore? What if he's found someone who really loves him? I think about it while I shove eggs and bacon in my mouth, so I don't have to carry on a discussion with the rest of the people at the table. Mom and Bev are content talking about the upcoming wedding for now and I don't want to turn their attention back on me. It's the tension between Max and Cliff that makes me nervous.

Cliff is staring at me like he's never seen me before and it makes Max...mad. Max seems beyond pissed actually. I can't put too much effort into trying to think through what is wrong with Cliff. Today I go back to reality. Today is my last day with Max. Even though he says things that make me want to believe he wants to see me after we leave I'm scared to believe any of them.

Max goes up to the room to pack his stuff after dinner and I go to the little office space in the back. It's so tiny it might as well be a mudroom with a desk and computer. When I was younger, I would do homework here. I'm not sure why I go other than it's a place Mom and Bev won't be at. As I pass the dining room, right beside the office, arms reach out and wrap around me. Some sixth sense tells me already this is not Max and my body stiffens up at the contact with another person.

The overwhelming smell of too much cologne and used cars tells me who has me, and I am not happy about it.

"Cliff, let me go!" I don't try to wiggle; God knows I don't want to brush my body up against his.

"Dem, I'm so sorry. I made a mistake when I left you. I don't want to be with your sister, I want you. I only want you." Oh! How pathetic can you be?

"Oh gross, Cliff I'm not like you. I won't cheat on someone just because new and shiny comes along. You dumped me because I wouldn't have sex with you and for that, I am so grateful because I have..." shit I almost gave it all away by saying I have something special to give to Max because Cliff was a dumbass and couldn't wait. "Max. I have Max and if you don't take your hands off of me this second I'm going to make sure it's very hard for you and Bev to have kids.
